United Nations International Ulysses Award
2011 | United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) — The Accessible Road, an initiative by Kéroul to promote tourism for the handicapped, was conferred the Ulysses Award by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in Vilamoura, Portugal, in June of 2011. Karl Rowley created and designed the travel guide and marketing collateral, and he was Kéroul's first partner when it all started in 2008 as a travel map that he personally created. This special project eventually evolved into an internationally acclaimed initiative that ultimately won this honor. Karl Rowley is still collaborating with Kéroul on many projects, including the overhauled version of this award-winning platform.
Education Minister Prizes
2009 | Minister of Education, Government of Québec — Karl Rowley designed and animated dozens of educational online games for his client the Collegial Centre for Educational Materials Development (CCDMD), for which two of them won the Québec Education Minister’s awards in 2009 and gained mainstream recognition in the Canadian educational market.
Best Canadian Short Film
2005 | Montreal World Film Festival — Karl Rowley designed the movie poster and marketing material for Ladies and Gentlemen, an award-winning short film that had a successful run in theatres worldwide and was invited to official competitions in North American and European festivals, including the prestigious FIPA international festival in Biarritz, France. As the opening film of the Montreal World Film Festival in 2005, it won the award for Best Canadian Short Film.
Best Culture Documentary
2004 | Canadian Gemini Awards — As a graphic designer for the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), Karl Rowley created the movie poster for The Cabinet of Doctor Ferron, a feature length documentary that won the Gemini Award for Best Documentary in 2004, a recognition by the Canadian Academy of Cinema & Television, analogous to the Emmy Awards (USA) or the BAFTA Awards (UK).
Webzine of the Year
1999 & 2000 | Boomerang Awards — Karl Rowley designed the original logo, visual identity and was the website’s Art Director for Showbizz.net that became a reference in its field and won the Boomerang Webzine Grand Prize two years in a row in 1999 and 2000. 20 years later, they still enjoy a highly regarded presence in the entertainment market.
